The Cost-of-Living Crisis
October has been an important month for us all in many ways, in particular – October 1st marked the official date when many people will feel the pinch and pressure of the cost-of-living prices rising.
Fuel, heating, and food prices to name a few, are impacting us greatly. This may also have a negative effect on our mental health. Kuumba Centre invited their People Who Use Services (PWUS) to come along to a UJIMA meeting to voice their concerns on the cost-of-living crisis and to find out what support in terms of mental health that Kuumba can be of assistance. Many people who attended the meeting, expressed their worries of trying to keep warm this winter and their concerns of being in debt.
Moving forward, Kuumba Centre will be working together with service users to make them feel more at ease with the cost-of-living crisis and we are looking at potentially providing a weekly warm spaces session in the future here at Kuumba to help support those financially.
