The Nia Imani (Swahili term meaning ‘Faith’ & ‘Purpose’) Counselling Service is committed to serving the African, Caribbean and Black dual heritage but not exclusively communities. Our aim is to promote positive mental health and well-being. Getting the help that you need and deserve is a fundamental human right.
Nia Imani Counselling is a culturally responsive therapeutic service that is designed to provide emotional support to individuals aged 16 years and above.

How does the service work?
Every client will have a personalised assessment by a counsellor to identify your counselling needs and readiness to begin this new journey.
Counselling sessions will take place in person at the Kuumba Centre, or other options can be discussed with your counsellor – such as online counselling sessions.
Maintaining confidentiality during counselling sessions is vital. Your information will remain confidential unless –
- Your written consent is given
- Situations that pose a threat to your life
- Situations requiring safeguarding measures.
Who is eligible?
Individuals who are…
- Aged 11 and older.
- Residing in Sandwell or West Birmingham.
- Currently experiencing and recovering from mental illness.
If you meet the above criteria, you will be given access to:
- One-to-One Counselling.
- Couples Counselling.
- Family Counselling.
