Midland Metropolitan University Hospital
The Midland Metropolitan University Hospital is now open
The Midland Metropolitan University Hospital has opened its doors to the people of Sandwell and West Birmingham. There have been a number of notable improvements made at the new MMUH site to improve infection prevention and control. “A key difference is that 50 percent of patients will be housed in single, en-suite rooms, improving not only privacy and dignity for patients but also the ability to prevent the spread of healthcare-associated infections from patient to patient”.
Patients who would normally use Sandwell Hospital’s A&E can now access care for life-threatening conditions at the new A&E at the Midland Met.
The Urgent Treatment Centre at the former Sandwell Hospital site is now open between 7 a.m. and 1 a.m., seven days a week. If you have a non-life-threatening condition, the Urgent Treatment Centre can help. Go to NHS 111 to book an appointment.
The Children’s A&E Department
The Children’s A&E department at the new Midland Met is now open. Sandwell residents should use the new Smethwick hospital for life threatening conditions which need emergency care. The Urgent Treatment Centre at Sandwell Hospital is for non-life-threatening conditions and is open between 7am and 1am. Sandwell Hospital’s A&E is now closed.
The Maternity Department
City Hospital Maternity Department is closed.
Some appointments will take place at the Midland Met but will continue at sites like the antenatal clinic in Hallam Street, at the former Sandwell Hospital site and at community venues like the Aston Pride Health Centre.
