The Nia Imani (Swahili term meaning ‘Faith’ & ‘Purpose’) Counselling Service is committed to serving the African, Caribbean and Black dual heritage (but not exclusively) communities. Our aim is to promote positive mental health and well-being. Getting the help that you need and deserve is a fundamental human right.
Nia Imani Counselling is a culturally responsive therapeutic service that is designed to provide support to individuals aged 16 years and above.

How does the service work?
Every client will have a personalised assessment by a counsellor to identify your counselling needs and readiness to begin this new journey.
Counselling sessions will take place in person at the Kuumba Centre, or other options can be discussed with your counsellor – such online counselling sessions.
Maintaining confidentiality during counselling sessions is vital. Your information will remain confidential unless your written consent is given, except in situations that pose a threat to life or require safeguarding measures.
Who is eligible?
For individuals who are…
- Aged 16 and above.
- Residing in Sandwell or West Birmingham.
- Currently experiencing and recovering from mental illness.
For those who meet the above criteria, they will be given access to…
- One-to-One Counselling.
- Couples Counselling.
- Family Counselling.
For further information on counselling please contact us. Our opening hours are Monday to Friday, 9:30 am – 5:00 pm. *Out of hours counselling sessions are limited however, please ask if required. We can help you understand the benefits of counselling for yourself or a family member.
