Celebrating Windrush Day 2024
This year, Sandwell African Caribbean Mental Health Foundation collaborated with the West Bromwich African Caribbean Resource Centre in celebration of Windrush Day! The event was held on Friday 21st June 2024 in which celebrated the memory and legacy of those who arrived on the HMT Empire Windrush in 1948: Windrush Day.
Windrush Day allows communities all over the country to recognise and honour the contributions of the first generation of African -Caribbean migrants who stepped ashore at Tilbury docks 70 years ago. You can read more about Windrush Day here.
The day was filled with Caribbean food, music, poetry, and much laugher, reminiscing of those who made the Windrush generation.

“The joint Windrush event was about the appreciation of Caribbean history and how Caribbean people made a significant contribution to the UK. Through insightful discussion, music and food we explored where we are now and the key organisations in Sandwell that are pushing for equity. Seeing the great turn out to our Windrush event was a very proud moment and we thank those involved from the Sandwell African Caribbean Mental Health Foundation and the West Bromwich African Caribbean Resource Centre.”
